18th Century Signed Fanback Windsor
C1796 Salem MA fanback Windsor with an old 19th Century finish and branded under seat "J.C. Tuttle" . James Chapman Tuttle, was a cabinetmaker who in 1796, due to high demand in his local market, started making chairs. He advertised his chairs at that time, describing them as being in the Philadelphia style, which you can see in the broad seat and back. His chairs are the only surviving Windsors associated with Salem MA.
